Greek Souvlaki

Saturday November 10, 2018

Souvla meaning spit, skewer. One of the oldest ways to enjoy meat in Greece and the Mediterranean. We find such spits in Bronze age like the ones of the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion with its Minoan collection.

Small pieces of meat grilled and usually served with bread, pita bread, pita wrap garnished with potato-chips, sauce and grilled vegetables. The meat is either pork, lamb, chicken or even beef… this is the oldest fast food and very possibly the tastiest!

You can not visit Greece and not taste a souvlaki…it is one of the many delicatessens and authentic tastes of Greece today. A taste of Greece a bite of Greece that has its roots in the 17 century B.C.

A recipe enjoyed by heroes of the Iliad. And we know where the best souvlaki is served…

WeGuide you to the best souvlaki in town.
